One night in Bruges

You might have noticed it was Trinity McQueen’s 5th birthday recently. To celebrate this milestone, the whole company (minus our amazing very nearly mothers to be) jetted over to Bruges for a 2 day, one-night celebratory getaway.

For those travelling from Leeds it was a bleary-eyed start to Monday morning with a 6am flight from Manchester.  Our London compatriots meanwhile had a slightly more sedate start travelling via Eurostar.

On arrival we wandered into the centre (many of us sampling Belgian Fries on the way – to be referred to as French fries at your own peril!) before hopping on a boat tour around the canals of Bruges.

Once our London contingent arrived we split into two groups for a fact packed history tour followed by either a chocolate making demonstration or the beer museum and a lovely team dinner at Cafedraal, a restaurant made famous as the scene where Colin Farrell punched a Canadian couple (have you seen ‘In Bruges’?). We spent the remainder of the evening dancing the night away and sampling the local beer (it would have been rude not to, right?).

Tuesday was spent gift (chocolate) shopping, while some braver souls ventured up the 366 steps to the top of the clock tower.  All in all, it was an amazing way to round off the celebrations for our 5th birthday – and a HUGE thank you to all those involved in organising

Our highlights (of the ones we can publish!):

  • -          The general beauty of Bruges – if you ever get a chance to wander the cobbled streets, then do!  As a newbie to Bruges it was far prettier and tranquil than I envisaged
  • -          The Bruges Whale – maybe not a highlight as such, but a whale sculpture made of 5 tons of plastic recovered from the Pacific Ocean and a stark reminder of our impact on the planet
  • -          Our size! - seeing the whole team out for dinner and lining up in date order of when each of us joined the business – a huge reminder of how much we have grown in recent years and what an amazing, bright and talented bunch we have
  • -          The chocolate and beer (need we say more)
